This half day tour takes you into a cultural trip to discover traditional activities and meet local people. Take a traditional becak or a scooter and go through the wonderful rice fields. Have a look at the everyday village life and stop by to observe traditional homemade production of tofu and brown sugar. Learn more about traditional crafting such as atap roof thatching made with palm leaves and bamboo walls (tepas). On Friday & Sunday you can also visit traditional markets! Feel free to ask questions to your guide to learn everything about the village life. At the end of the tour enjoy a fresh drink or a freshly harvested coconut water!
1 Day Tour Itinerary
Embark on a captivating day trip from Bukit Lawang to Tangkahan, a unique eco-tourism village bordering Gunung Leuser National Park. - Departure: Your guide will pick you up from your guesthouse around 9:00 am and escort you to your transport: a traditional becak or a nimble motorbike.
- Countryside Journey: Journey out of Bukit Lawang and into the heart of traditional small villages nestled within the lush countryside.
- Scenic Rice Fields: En route, take in the breathtaking scenery of verdant rice fields, beautifully framed by the majestic Gunung Leuser National Park in the distance. Feel free to ask your driver for stops to observe the intricate process of local rice cultivation.
- Immersive Cultural Experiences:
- Traditional Tofu Production: Witness the age-old methods of tofu making.
- Brown Sugar Production: Observe the traditional process of creating rich brown sugar.
- Village Walk: Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the village, gaining insight into the daily routines and livelihoods of the local people.
- Plantation Views: Pass by sprawling rice fields, rubber plantations, and cocoa plantations, soaking in the vibrant green landscapes.

- Taste the Tropics: Take your time to browse and perhaps purchase some unfamiliar yet delicious fresh fruits directly from local producers (consider trying dragon fruit, snake fruit, rambutan, or langsat).
- Flexible Lunch Stop: If you wish to stop for lunch on the way back to Bukit Lawang, simply inform your guide. Please note that the cost of lunch is not included in the tour price.
- Authentic Village Lunch (Optional): For a truly local culinary experience, feel free to ask your guide for recommendations on authentic village eateries before heading back to your guesthouse.
- Return to Guesthouse: Your guide will ensure you are safely returned to your guesthouse around 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm, concluding your enriching cultural tour
